You Mean I'm Not Skinny Yet?

It's been an entire week and I'm not even skinny yet!! Yeah, I know it took me 21 years to pack on 200+ pounds, but this diet plan promised me FAST RESULTS!!! I should be sliding my skinny jeans up my coke bottle silhouette by now! I should be turning heads and stopping traffic by now! I mean...It has been a WHOLE WEEK!!!!!!!

As silly as this rant sounds, this is the exact thinking of the inpatient "Dieter" looking for the next get skinny quick scheme. I have fallen into that category on countless occasions, but I finally understand why my short patience rendered even shorter lived results.

The weight loss authorities state that healthy weight loss is one to two pounds a week which equals approximately 52 to 104 pounds a year. With my doctors helping me and supervising me closely, I can actually lose between 15 and 20 lbs a month which is absolutely amazing. Those of us who have over 100 pounds to lose may feel like we're not seeing results fast enough, but we must focus on our short term goals and diligently work towards the long term goals.

There's a popular saying...well, it's more of a question that encourages those tackling a difficult task. It says: "How do you eat an elephant?" One bite at a time. (That's if elephant eating is your thing...no judgment here! ;)) Ok, I digress...I know the task at hand can be daunting but it is absolutely doable.

So, here's the bottom line. If we change our thinking, we can change our entire lives within the next 365 days. One day at a time. One meal at a time. I'm going to put my patience where my mouth is. This is no time for hard wishing! This is the time to put in HARD WORK! Day after day, week after week, month after month for the rest of our lives.

I know it's been an entire week...and no...we're not skinny yet, but take heart. We're getting healthier...and skinnier everyday.

Love you and I mean it!
