Burnout to Win

Whenever you hear the phrase "I'm burned out" it's definitely not a good thing. When I asked my best friend, Google, to define burnout, I was informed that burnout is a "state of emotional and physical exhaustion caused by a prolonged period of stress and frustration." Yep! That sums it up about right. I've been on this weight loss roller coaster for over twenty years without much to show for it. Talk about prolonged frustration.
At times I have been super excited and pumped up to start a new health journey and then there are times like this...times where I am not fully confident that I can actually lose the weight I desire to lose. Times where I am completely burned out. There is so much stress associated with: eat this, not that, exercise daily, and hurry up and wait for the results (that may or may not come). It is truly maddening.
Just as I was about to begin composing the invite list to my "burnout pity party" My mind suddenly thought back to my husband's favorite sport...Drag racing. I have certainly attended a-many races over the years and one thing I have consistently witnessed is burnouts. Dixie Twister explains that even though the driver makes a scene with his/her burnout, that is not the only purpose for this display.
The driver prepares the tires on their vehicle for racing by warming them up and syncing them up with the track. This prevents the rubber from sticking to the track when it is time to put the petal to the metal. It also removes anything from the tires that may impede them from having a successful run down the track. In essence, the burnout is vital to the success of the race. If the driver just jumps in and starts racing without prepping the tires, they are setting themselves up for failure.
As I pondered on this concept of spinning in place for a moment before I take off, I thought about the preparation and planning it takes to pull off any event or reach any goal. Sometimes we have to hold it in place long enough to get all of our ducks in a row. I am guilty of jumping head first into things without any forethought whatsoever. Cliche alert!!! "If you fail to plan...you plan to fail."
I don't know about you, but I am sick and tired of failing! So instead of feeling burned out, I have decided to do a burnout. I will spin in place for a minute or two, get a grip, and get prepared for the race in front of me. This time, I will gain the traction I need in order to make it to the finish line. This time, I will not only finish, but I will win!
Love you Guys!!
