Friendship...Don’t Miss It.
I have a total of four childhood friends. Two of which are pictured with me here. I met the one in the middle (Christy) in 1987. That was the first year I attended school in Grenada, MS. We were in Mrs. Watson’s 3rd grade class together. She was quiet and I was shy, so we didn’t talk to each other back then.
Fast forward to 1990...we met again in Mr. Jackson’s Science class. This is the year we began to interact...but not as friends. She was my arch nemesis! All we did was argue...day after day...week after week...month after month. We even caused two girls to physically fight on our behalf. We often look back and laugh at those crazy 6th grade conflicts and wonder what could’ve been the source of all that confusion.
That same year, me and Christy met Stacy. She would become the third pea in our pod. The three of us have managed to remain friends for almost three decades. There have been arguments and disagreements, pain and disappointments, fall-outs and distance...and ultimately...forgiveness and friendship.
Through some of our toughest times, we’ve been there holding each other up, and through other difficult times we have not. Still, we love one another like we’ve been skipping arm in arm through the tulips for 28 years straight. Marriage, children, failed relationships, and life’s trials have matured us and molded us and changed us, yet we still have each other’s best interests at heart. It has been that way with my other friends Nae and Kevi as well.
Friendship gets a bad rep sometimes. People put unnecessary tags, requirements, and obligations on that word more often than not. The truth of the matter is this: Friendship is simply having genuine love for someone who has that same genuine love for you. Nothing more or less. So if you haven’t talked to your friend in a while...pick up the phone and say, Hey! Love ya! It will speak volumes without any kind of explanation needed.
Friendship is not easy to find...so when you do...Don’t miss it!
